Book Launch Week Recap: Fleeing to Virginia, Wearing a Diaper, and More!

It’s funny how things can turn out quite differently than what you imagined in your head. When I started writing a book, I pictured the experience culminating in a book launch party with friends, family, and supporters coming together to celebrate the official release. There would be lots of laughing, alcohol flowing, and loads of unhealthy food being consumed.

My reality turned out to be way different than this image. In the days leading up to the book launch (March 31st), Jenn and I were frantically packing up to temporarily relocate, for an undefined amount of time, to Northern Virginia. Ordinarily, this exercise wouldn’t be that difficult. We’d pack the clothes we needed, and then buy a bunch of crap on Amazon that would arrive at our destination before we did.

Unfortunately, because of the coronavirus, Prime Now is basically non-existent; Amazon Prime 2-day shipping is more like 30-day shipping; and if you’re trying to get your hands on any type of paper product, forget about it. You might be “lucky” enough to add some toilet paper to your shopping cart, only to have Amazon cancel your order at the last minute - call it Amazon “in your dreams” shipping. So our move included having to haul a large amount of paper products, baby food, and cat food.

My week took another unexpected turn as we were trying to figure out how to make the typical 5 hour drive from NYC to DC without stopping at a rest area. The only solution - a diaper. Yes, I ended up wearing a diaper for the trip because why go through all of the brain damage to leave NYC, wear masks, and use gloves, if you’re going to cancel out all of those efforts by stopping at a disgusting rest area or gas station bathroom (that probably has things much worse than coronavirus to contract).

My Book is Now Available!

This was a long way of saying my book, Work Your Money, Not Your Life, is officially out in the wild and available wherever books are sold (though you probably won’t be able to go to those bookstores physically with the shelter in place orders).

THANK YOU to all of those people who helped me along the way (there were a lot of you), and to all of those who have already purchased the book - I REALLY appreciate it!

How You Can Help

  1. Buy the book! - If you were waiting until the book was officially available, now is the time - your support is much appreciated!

  2. Review the book on Amazon - Your reviews can help other readers discover and benefit from the book. It should take less than 5 minutes to write, but means a lot to me!

  3. Sign up for Goodreads - It’s free and super easy to sign up. Add Work Your Money, Not Your Life to your “Want to Read” or “Currently Reading” list. Just search for “Work Your Money, Not Your Life” (or use this link) and click “Want to Read” or “Currently Reading” under the image of the book.

  4. Share your pics and thoughts on social media - It’d be great if you could share any pics of the book (or use the book cover image to the right) with your initial reactions on social media. Use the hashtag #workyourmoney and tag me on Twitter (@lifelaidout), Facebook (roger.ma.5), LinkedIn (rogermacfp), or Instagram (workyourmoney).

  5. Coordinate bulk purchases and speaking - If you enjoyed the book and think your group or company may be interested in making a bulk order as part of a virtual speaking session (gotta shelter in place or at least stay 6 feet away from each other), please reach out to me!

Thanks again for your interest and support. Stay safe and healthy.
